Why Writing Matters

Writing transcends everything we know about art, philosophy, economics, geopolitics and religion.

It’s the only art form you engage in daily. In the era of the screen, writing, reading comprehension, and media literacy are the most important cognitive tools you have at your disposal. And every piece of writing, from the smallest tweet to the longest treatise, shapes your world, holding the potential to change your worldview and influence your actions.

Stephen King compared writing to telepathy; when you write you’re trying to transmit a specific image, tone, or information into someone’s mind.

Alan Moore referred to writing as magik. It has the power to alter the future, make sense of the past, and guide the present. The more words that are read, the more important the written word becomes. What someone writes about you today will likely be read by someone months, years, and decades from now.

Your brand matters. Your words matter. Writing matters.
